Pilot projects involving Muscovites in the design of the urban environment
Objective: a communication strategy to involve Moscow residents in the design of the urban environment in the areas from Patriarshie Ponds to Brusov Pereulok, the embankments of the Yauza River from Tagansky District to Sokolniki Park, and Shipilovsky Slope. The customer was MoszhilNIIproekt, a subordinate organisation of the Department of Capital Repair of Moscow, and the Moscow Municipal Economy Complex.
This was a new experience for Moscow in involving residents in the design of such large areas. Together with the architectural bureau Wowhaus and engagement specialists of NLTR Praktika, we changed the negative perception of territory improvement in the capital into a positive one over two months, and made the first steps towards building a dialogue with Muscovites at face-to-face meetings. The process of involvement was covered at all stages of creating a public task, and the methodology of involvement was positioned as a basis for future interaction with citizens on creating a comfortable environment.
We tried to be diverse, using different formats: news, surveys, live broadcasts, expert opinions, urban legends, reports, video interviews, contests and quizzes, terminology cards. As a result, we managed to bring the topic of engagement in Moscow to a new level and, at the very least, launch a city-resident dialogue. The project was suspended in December 2020 due to the epidemiological situation.
